Why you want to do Ph.D. ??

There is a higly suggestive and interesting website about doing doctoral course.

Why Would You Want to Do a PhD? | MIT Graduate Admissions

Introdcution in this article starts with following statement.

'The latest Doctoral Exit Survey by the MIT Career Services reveals that close to 50% of the PhD graduates in 2017 do not work in research institutes or universities immediately after graduation. Instead, they work across private and public sectors.'

This is really a important and meaningful survey. In Japan, almost of all people, even the graduate students believes that doing a Ph.D. directly means going on an academic career. But getting a Ph.D. anymore does not mean building an academic career.

Indeed, in the website above, there is a regarding statement.

'It is a myth that a PhD degree only prepares you to succeed in academia. Since a doctoral program helps you develop a field specialy, it is not hard to imagine people who use their PhD training to sharpen their skills in order to work in industry. Abbas Shikari is no exception. A master's student in mechanical engineering at MIT, he plans to extend his current program to a PhD.'
